This may not be a very pawlitically correct post, especially since the blogworld celebrated international NOMS Day earlier this week. And everyone is watching the international Olympic Games -- those in China and the Paw Limpics right here on the DWB.
Nevertheless, since it's really really hard for a dog to tell anything but the truth, we have a serious problem with shhh cats.
First, of late, Dogdad has been finding cat poop on our front driveway and on our back patio. Our whole development has lots of bins for the disposal of whatever our dog populaion produces on their walks. But apparently, these particular NOMS are free to leave their stuff whereever they please.
Second, while we are committed to barking as loudly and as continuously as possible to help Jackson before, during, and after his surgery, the frequent presence of an uninvited neighborhood cat on our patio has caused us to bark frenetically and non-stop right in Mom's ear as her computer is next to the patio door. Despite her desire to have us continue barking for Jackson, she has threatened to sell us to the first bidder if we don't take our barking elsewhere in the house. But all of our genetic material has conditioned us to bark at these particular intruders and we can't seem to help ourselves. She's even resorted to drawing the blinds so we can't see out -- but then, neither can she. And we can still smell the cat.
And third, this morning as JH was peering through a hedge on his walk, as he always does, suddenly he backed away, startled by something. What? A very hostile grey cat who had hissed at him and was looking quite angry that he had the nerve to poke his nose under the hedge. What chutzpah!!
So, we're willing to do our part -- and as you all know -- we have seven NOMS cousins living elsewhere in Florida. But how do we communicate the message to these neighborhood NOMS that they need to do their part too? We don't think they blog. We don't think they speak dog. And they don't seem inclined to read our declaration of inter-species peace and harmony.
Any suggestions?

Oooo, now you know how I feel about cats in my back garden! They're not playing the game are they? I haven't got any solutions, I'm afraid. Maybe bark louder? That might put them off. J x
Cats...I've only met one & it was a very mean & spiteful thing! I don't know what you should do to that kitty!

We have a problem with our neighbours cat too. She comes into our yard and on occasion has done awful things to the native birds that feed in our yard. That cat is a real problem. We bark our heads off and B has even let Lucy out to try to deal with the cat but cat is too quick.
All I can suggest is keep on barking.

Not sure about the cat, maybe you could get a Key West Chicken to go after it.
Happy 8-O-8-O-8 guys.

Hi Jake and JH
Sorry I haven't been in touch. We really appreciate your calling by my blog all the time since Khomet died. Mum is trying to help me blog again but she's been having dizzy spells and bad headaches lately, on top of her losing most of her hair, so she can't seem to last long at the compooter. She had her eyes checked and her doctor did some more blood tests, but it all comes down to her grief and stress. We miss you guys and hopefully I'll be back blogging real soon.
Lots of Love from Hammer
Dear Jake....
My little boy child Dewey tells me that you would like to take me out on a date. Why, I would be pawsitively delighted to make your acquaintance and excited to share a few hours with you. Now don't you worry about that boy of mine....he is just too protective of me and thinks that there is just not anyone good enough to take me out and about. I read your comment about the poisonous toads you have in Florida and hope that we would not be searching for such a critter on our date.
I am sure that you are a very level-headed young man and that we will have a wonderful time seeing the sights and having a simple dinner....I am a simple person and do not require expensive meals, trips or gifts to make me happy. Why a bit of water in a small pan can just about make my day.
I will await your instructions and detailed invitation. Thank you for thinking of me and for your assurance that you are a gentleman thru and thru.

There have been cats who came to play with my catsisters in the back yard and they were a real nuisance because they made my sisters upset. Mama would just turn the hose on them. There's nothing madder than a wet cat. After a few sudden showers, they stopped visiting. Maybe it sounds mean, but it really doesn't hurt them. (Shower setting, not jet stream.) It was better than a cat fight, two against one. Tell your Mama to have the hose ready.

We are thinking that you need to be quietly let out a number of times, just to SURPRISE those nasty invaders ... and let them know whose territory they are encroaching upon. Disrespect by any NOMS is not to be taken quietly! I don't mind cats at all ... as long as they stay on their own turf.
Well, we are blog friends with NOMS but I have admitted to them I would probably play serious chase if they came to visit. We would bark a lot, too. A WHOLE lot being beagles. Would something like mothballs work? It works as a mouse repellent here. My mom also uses oil of spearmint which makes things (like closets) smell nice. Is there some sort of cat repellent?

We saw a cat in our barn today and I barked my head off for 10 minutes trying to tell her to get off MY private property! We don't like cats anymore than you do, Jake and JH!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
hmmm This is a tough one. We really dislike cats too, but we kind of like their uhh well, their poo! It is delicious!!!! So I am sort of stuck on this one...
I think you should just Bark as loudly and as continously at the cat's hooman when you see any of them next time so if they dun understand why you are barking at them, I bet they will ask your mum or dad and they can help you deliver the message across. How is that?
I am praying for Jackson too but I dun bark. I dream of him getting well soon and keep thinking of him in my dreams...

Barkalots. Mmm wonder why the cats are outdoors? My kittie brother lives inside and leaves his poop in a tray for me to snack on if I possibly can. Anyway I have found frenzied barking turns cats into scaredie cats- give it a try.
Wags, Eric x
I don't think I've really met a cat just yet...I guess the place where I'm staying does not have many cats around. Still, the ones that you described sounded very scary, Jake!

Hi guys,
I really don't know what to tell you. I have the same problem. Our next door neighbor has a cat and he walks through my yard everyday!!!! Can you imagine that??? The nerve of him!! I do my best to chase him by barking with extra urgency, but to no avail. He knows that I am trapped on the deck. But if I ever get him, he is dead meat, since he is old, and I'm not even two yet. But, until then, I'll just have to keep barking.
I did see a cat once in a cage down at the vet's office. I liked him until I realized what he was, and then I told him exactly what I think.
Best of luck. I know you guys will get him.
Love and Koobuss Kisses,
Koobie
Chase 'em. Thats my advice. Don't waste your time barking at them, just get your human out there with a lead, and when you spot the cat, go for it. You can either pull the human over, drag them along with you, or rip the lead out of their hands. That's what I do anyway.
