Wordy Wednesday

Jake here: Mom has finally come back to her senses after the emotions of last week. Or at least I think that's what she came back to.

Listen to this. She's a dreamer. Every morning she tries to explain to Dogdad all the places she went over night in her dreams and the many challenges she overcame. Dogdad rarely dreams -- or at least doesn't remember any dreams -- so it's hard for him to identify. Consequently, often she'll turn to me and say, "Jakey, you'll never guess what I dreamt last night." Usually, since it's not about me or my brother, I just bobble my head and ask "What about breakfast?"

But two nights ago, Mom had a dream that involved me -- and it was really cool.

You may not remember this from previous posts -- but at a very early age -- perhaps 5 months, when I was being crate trained and had already learned my manners -- I figured out how to unlock the crate door and get out. Mom recalls it vividly because she was sitting at her computer one afternoon and suddenly felt a cold wet nose on her leg. Mine. At first she thought she had not properly locked the crate when she had put me back in after our business walk. So she escorted me back to the crate and made sure it was locked.

A few minutes later, she suddenly felt that same cold wet nose on her leg -- and hooray -- that was the end of my being crated.

So, here's the dream as Mom explained it to me. We were all up in the bedroom , with the door closed as it usually is at night. She woke up and found me sitting by the door wanting to go out. I gestured toward the door knob with my paw - and she realized I wanted to open it myself. So, she picked me up, put my paw on the door knob, and gently turned it with me. And I said, I said what any dog who suddenly learned how to turn a door knob and open the door would say:

"Woof!"

OK, Mom, dream on!!!

THat is a happy dream. When my momma dreams about me it is always that I am in trouble and she cannot save me.

I have heard about doggies such as yourself who can open the doors of crates. I am amazed.

The brain is such a wonderful organ. Strange how it pulls out bits and pieces to make dreams.

Puffy can open all the doors n cupboards in the house that he can reach. The inside doors have those handles instead of knobs, n Puffy can reach up and pull em open. I can pull out drawers, but neither of us can open our crates. That's some serious talent! Teach me oh crate guru!

We were reading at Johann's blog that he's turning off light switches so opening doors is absolutely believable!

What a great dream your Mom had about you. Nice trick, opening the door. I'd like to learn that one myself. My buddy Buck can open the gate if it's not locked. Will your Mom have to start locking the doors???

Hmmm...none of us terriers can escape a crate, but Baylee our half sissy cockapoo can...very smart cookie...

When Mumsie dreams of us she's usually in wader boots cleanin' up pee on SOMEONE ELSE'S CARPET...

She said it's like gallons and it's usually Lacie's...interesting...usually she just dreams about work...too many patients and too little time....sorta like reality?!

Love ya boyz!

Jake. Fergi could have seriously used some of your coaching when Moma was trying to crate (not really train... but crate, nonetheless) her. Instead of opening the crate, she'd spin it across the room, aiming for some unbeknownst destination. They've all long since given up on that goal.

As for the dream, we're hoping for the second installment, when you pass through the door and fly. Those are the dreams Moma likes to tell about most... the ones that involve soaring her through the sky. Just like the sky in the Blingee for Jackson. Any dog that can open a door must be able to take off and fly. Just think how easily you could visit all your blogging buddies. Very cool.

Just a tad jealous,
Jake and Fergi

Sorry we seem to have missed this post!
They say all dreams have meaning but we are not sure what the meaning of this dream is!
Could it be that your mom secretly wants you to take control of situations?
We will try to find out if there is a guide to dreams with dogs in. If you can open things you could come in very handy indeed!
