Helping Haiti

We're sure everyone has heard about the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Here in South Florida, we have a large and industrious Haitian population, folks who are part of the fabric of our community and are frantic about their families and fellow countrymen in Haiti.
Haiti may seem very far away to most of you -- but this poor poor country is in tragic circumstances and needs everyone's help. Even the hospitals are down. The Red Cross and other agencies, including the Haitian musician, Wyclef Jean, are accepting donations.

We have a huge Haitian population here too. People are trying to reach their home to find out if their families are OK.

It is totally unfathomable to comprehend the devastation there. We are hearing reports of between 100,000 and 500,000 estimated to be dead. It is so very sad. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Haitian community.

So sad. I just don't understand why they get more than their share of tragedy. I did some work on a remote island off of Haiti and met some locals and can say I have never encountered that level of poverty face to face. I have seen it on TV but in person it is really shocking and heartbreaking.

Here the Red Cross is telling us to donate money instead of things because it is more expensive to send them.
We made a donation.
We are praying for them

The crazy old bat says that you can even give at Costco when you check out. She tells us that she did that.

We donated at Staples when Mumsie checked out yesterday...it's so hard to see those pictures. They just brought 50 orphans from a collasped orphanage here to Pittsburgh this week...all but six have gone to their adoptive homes...

It's hard to imagine this kind of devestation...

Love you guys....

It is absolutely heartbreaking. I have spent time in the Dominican Republic and cannot even imagine a country that makes the DR look wealthy. There is nothing really we can do, that anyone can do, and it is precisely events like this that make me doubt the point of prayer to begin with. So no platitudes here, just hope for not the best--that was ruled out a long time ago--but the least worst possible.

Yes, it is a very poor country and certainly didn't need such a disaster to befall them. We are especially concerned about the children. We are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers.
