Love among the Vines

While we dogs and our humans have been fretting about the weather, interesting things have been happening outside on our patio. In particular, as I was pursuing my new meteorological work, looking through the patio doors, I realized that our yellow mandevilla vine had been making moves on our frangipani.

Look for yourselves:

Here's mandevilla, which, having covered our arbor with profuse foliage, is striking out in new directions.

And here's frangipani, aka plumeria, which, while bending in the breeze, suddenly discovered she was being enticed by an insistent extension of the vine as the Ty plant just looked on , shaking his head, and the stealth hibiscus hedge screamed -- stay away from us!!

And what will be the result? Not to be too brutal, but we're afraid Mom and Dogdad will tell mandevilla to mind his own business and stick with his job, i.e., covering the arbor. And plumeria, once the breezes have ceased, will be less approachable.

But it's been fun to watch this mini-romance while it lasted. (And yes, what you see there is a moment of sunshine, after all the rain!!)

Speaking of romance, Asta Marie, do you know the Pirates are playing the Cardinals in St. Louis? Can our budding relationship survive this battle royale?

Your pal, Jake

Thanks for your comments on my bloggie, it doesn't matter anymore what was said or why, I am just so very glad to be a part of this community. Thank you

We are thinking that is more a mini-invasion than romance ... a stealthy encroachment of territory. We want some vines on our balcony. Maybe we should put some mandeville in a pot?

While I am from the Burgh in every way, the Pirates have been and will likely continue to be a bargain basement team since everytime they get good players they trade them away....Did you know Barry Bonds (not that I agree with his use of steroids)was originally with the Pirates? If they ever are in contention for a pennant it will be a miracle...you have to wonder why the fans continue to pay large amounts of $$$$ to see them lose.....but I do not hope the Cardinals win......bet you wondered if I would ever get there, huh?

By the way, we have 2 rats staying here and they are driving all of us crazy....all I need is one small break and I can have them in my mouth and onto a page in the history books....

We love seeing all of your Florida flowers! We can't grow so many of your beauties here!
Mom usually makes spoons and dishes in the winter time when we're all out in the workshop! It's kind of a seasonal thing and a one-at-a-time thing! We hope we get lots of carving time this year!

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

Oooh a garden romance, how exciting. Don't you just love the frangipani...no wonder the mandeville vine is interested. Who can blame him.

Hope your weather improves soon. Weather has been pretty good here today. Better watch out for those love vines, they sound dangerous.

Mistress loves frangipani.

Silly old flowers, but you were right, she was entranced with your post. Or entwined. Or ensomethinged.

hey guys,
my wisteria and honeysuckle plants are doing the same things as your mandevilla. Mom's a bit scared of the wisteria now since it's growing so much so fast.
Well hope you're doing well with Fay which it seems you are.
hugs,
Ozzy

I hope the vine doesn't squeeze too tight in showing it's love! Very pretty pictures--the rain is making it a jungle down there.

Those plants do look a bit alarmed, but I think he just wants to hold hands before the storm. :)
