Remembering Ms. Libby Longtail

Dear Pals

It seems that Box of Chocolates lesson is all too real. Between Phantom's tumor, and what happened to Dre, and the shooting in Baltimore -- there's way too much going on for us to register. And then a short while ago I learned that one of the most adorable, flirtatious, feisty, wire fox terrier lassies I've ever known succumbed to nasal carcinoma today.

Her name was Ms. Libby Longtail -- and I gave my heart to her the very first time I saw her when we were little more than puppies. At first she told me she was too young to have a regular boyfriend. Later I think she just liked knowing how many smitten swains she had. But I loved her anyway!

And we had so much fun! Her lipstick-stained e-mails written in purple passion ink never failed to make my heart jump.

Lucky girl, she was surrounded by terrier brothers who both adored her and gave her plenty of space. And the best mom and dad possible.

And now, at the tender age of 7, she's crossed the Bridge, where I'm sure she is about to break a zillion hearts!!!

I can only send my wirey love to her mom and dad and remember what a special foxy girl she was.

A very sad Jakey

We are very sorry to hear about Ms. Libby Longtail. Seven is way too young. Wasn't she just a beauty.

Phantom's report is back and it isn't all bad, still a malignancy but we can deal with it.

Soft woos to Ms. Libby's family.

Oh Jakey, I didn't know Ms. Libby, but she looks a bundle of fun. How terrible that she died so young. I feel so sad. Learning that bad things can happen in life as well as wonderful ones is part of growing up, I guess.

How terribly sad to see a life cute so short. Our momma can never understand how God lets the goodness leave this earth when we need it so much to get by from day to day.

What sad news to return to. We've been gone so long. And we've missed so much. It made our hearts sink to read about your Miss Libby Longtail (and about Phantom's tumor and about Dr. Dre and about the Maryland shooting.) It hurts to know that so much sadness is going on in the lives of our family and friends.

We're glad we're back. We've missed you. And we hope you are all well. We've got a lot of catching up to do, but we will. In the meantime, keep Florida safe for us. OK?

Your back in Colorado pals,
Jake and Fergi xxoo
