For Martha, Just Martha

Our hearts heve been so heavy, nestled far away in Southwest France with two fluffy Boyz -- Wilf and Digby -- as Digby fights the horrendous aftermath of a brown tick bite. Concerns for his plight have spread across our canine cyber world and, we hope, are helping his family during this sad roller coaster of emotions. We weren't certain whether we should write about anything else. But then we thought -- what do we wirey guys do best? We make our humans smile, even when their hearts are breaking for another doggie so far away.

So here's some nostalgia that might bring a smile or two to our pals who remember past adventures. This morning I checked in with the basset sisters, only to see the lovely Martha rolling in some exotic perfume. As her scent wafted across the waters to my sensitive terrier nose, I thought of Just Martha, the amazing runway star with whom I had shared a brief but dazzling career as a high-fashion model.

I told her of this -- and she responded that she too remembered. My muzzle started to quiver at the memory -- as it always does when anything exciting is about to happen -- a walk, a treat, a new branch to whizz on... So Martha, lovely Just Martha, I thought you'd enjoy a glimpse of my brave, if somewhat limited, attempts to perfume myself with nature's best smells in your honor (honour).
Yesterday afternoon, to enjoy the waning hours of the weekend, we all went out on the patio. Mom asked Charles Aznavour to sing. Dogdad opened a nice zinfandel. Cool breezes fanned us through the palms.

And I took off on my explorations.

I was having so much fun!! But, as I went from bush to bush, plant to plant, looking for lizards and toads and bugs, my brother watched sadly from the doorway.

The folks think he is still pained by his poodly paw -- and doesn't like to be where people might giggle. But I think he's just not as much of a true wire-haired fox terrier as I am. (Or could he be thinking of his eloozive Gabbi?)

That's OK. He knows how to organize things and keep the folks on their toes. And he is the one who gets them to feed us

So Martha, lovely Martha, just remember your pal Just Harry -- and let's hope that one-day our respective secretaries wil master the art of photoshopping so we can renew our collaboration wherever it may take us.

Your friend forever,

Just Harry

Dearest Just Harry
How delightful your patio looks in those splendid pictures.
Our mum is imagining the wine - she feels she would need several glasses if she had to listen to Charles Aznavour!
Still we all have our own tastes.......
I am so excited that you can smell my perfume - despite a bath I believe the delightful scent still lingers.
I do so hope you can find something to match it though I fear you may have to look further than your patio - unless of course there is the chance of a dead lizard.....or two!
You poor brother Jake is looking rather sad with his poodly leg!
Book him a ticket to Scotland and we will take him out and about with us to cheer him up. We can even drive up to see the Beagles if that would help.
We too have been saddened by some of the recent news on the blogs.
We wish we could make all the bad times disappear and only have good and happy times.
Our mum tells us that life can never be either all good or all bad - what helps us all through is our good friends.
Thank you for making us smile - and for the memories.
love you lots
Just Martha xxx

Hi JH

Oh you are so right about Martha.Isn't she wonderful. I am a very very very super lucky wee pup, as Martha and Bailey have agreed to be my honorary Aunties, and are giving me all sorts of useful advice. For example, I am going to go on my first ever proper country walk next weekend, and Martha has told me all about what a good idea it is to roll in something smelly, and how Gail won't really mind about the smell in the car....And now you have just confirmed that this is just thing to do. Thank you so much!
Poor Digby is much in our thoughts here too, and I am sure that he and his family would want us to smile and not to be gloomy all the time.
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Ps Gail says perhaps Martha and Bailey's mum might appreciate Charles Aznavour better if she had a few glasses of whisky, as wine might not be strong enough. I have no idea what she's on about....

dear wirey guy pals...

we admire JH for seeking the eluzive wild scent on your patio. Maybe the golf course? right after they fertilze, of course?

And poor Jakie...you still look poodlephooted, and I think you are wise to keep your amazing brain working until you can once again effectively disquise that with a sock or something.

Sometimes being Just Martha who is sought after by Just Harry is 'just the right thing' to be.

ahhhh Just Martha an Just Harry. We like it (mom once had a basset named Irma La Douce) Long before our time. It is a lovely garden(and Jake-poodley isn't all bad ya know ;}
We too have become obsessed with the little dog Digby in France. Against all odds, we want him to make it, but....who knows. Mom says maybe so soon after losing Shamus, urging him on in her mind puts her brain there instead of the quiet here....
Love the Florida pics!

Ahh, if Elle MacPherson can close the Louis Vuitton show after a 20+ year hiatus from the catwalk, then certainly you and Just Martha can stage a comeback! I remember well our train trip to Scotland, Auntie Bailey discovering her royal roots and Just Harry and Auntie Martha being discovered as Canine's Next Top Models...

What a lovely garden. Makes me anxious to get back to Hilton Head and see what lovely things I can find hiding under the palm fronds.

Our hearts are heavy as well as we keep checking in on our cher amis in France....

Your pal,

Petey

So Jakey.....hows about a double-date???? Whaddya say...........you, me, and JH and dear Aunt Martha???
We could inspect each other's teefies *blushes*
I'll get Mother onto it immediately.....it's the least she can do!
In the meantime, i'll try and find something wonderful to wear..........
Missed you too much my wirey sweetheart.
Kissies,
Your Gabbi xxxx

pee-ess............we've been away so long we don't know Wilf and Digby, but we've got all our paws crossed that he gets over that nasty tick bite soon...horrible things :o(

We are sure hoping that Digby recovers completely from that nasty tick bite!

By the way, Jakey, I (Penny) have a Poodle leggie too. I can't figure out why Patches didn't get one too. Maybe your dogmom could shave the other leggie to match!...or wear 2 sockies so noone notices that one leggie is all poodlie! I'm just sayin'...

Aire-hugs,
Penny & Patches

My doG. We talked Moma into starting to catch up with your blog. (We're back in Florida and wanted to start with you to see what we've been missing in this part of the world.) When she tried to find where to start, she launched into May. MAY! Has it been that long. It's gonna take her FUREVER to read and help us catch up ... let alone comment. So. Know. We're starting here. And before we venture on, we want you to know ... Moma thanks for a gazillion times over (and so do we). When Fergs went in for her toothies cleanup (and the subsequent multi-hundred dollar tests that proved nothing but good news), she came out with only a small spot shaved on her leg. Not that we don't admire poodle leggies ... but ... well ... you know about a girl's pride.

Onward ho. Reading reading reading!
Love from north Florida,
Jake and Fergs xxoo
