Dear friends of all species:
A few weeks ago, when Dogdad was away in Cali for nigh ah, and Jake and Mom and I went upstairs to bed, I did something I had never done before: I ran straight into the shower, looked up at the ceiling, put my paws on the wall, and barked and barked and barked.
Since that was brand-new behavior for me, Mom was perplexed -- resulting in several telephone calls back and forth between Flori-duh and Cali for nigh ah.
Not knowing what else to do, Mom eventually lured me out and closed the French door between the bedroom and the dressing room/bathroom and, although I stopped barking after awhile, I sat by the closed door for almost an hour, and finally fell asleep right there.
That was it for a few weeks until Dogdad was away over night in Puerto Rico and I repeated the frantic behavior.
Just as Mom was about to conclude that my unusual excitement was related to missing Dogdad -- and thinking that perhaps he was hiding in the ceiling or on the roof -- he came home and I started all over again. This time, it was at 3am that I decided to check out the bathroom with several loud barks -- enough to awaken the 'rents and disturb the peace and tranquility of our neighborhood. Not a good thing.
At first, they thought perhaps a critter had fallen through an exhaust vent on the roof -- but we have found no signs of any such critter.
Was it Lacie, who at one point said she was coming for a visit? Was it a frozen iguana falling from his perch? Did Santa finally make it to our neighborhood? We haven't a clue.
All I know is that at the moment I am canina non grata -- and fear for my future...
(Let it be known that while all this has been going on, Brother Jake, who usually supports me in my every barking adventure, has been comfortably ensconced in the rocking chair that he prefers, with nary a bark or a brk or a bk.)
All explanations and "get-out-of-jail" cards are welcome.
Just Harry

Uh oh JH...we need to find a way to help you tell DogMom and DogDad what is bothering you. Are there catses in your neighborhood who are allowed out at night? Do you hear a critter on the roofie? Are there trees or bushes that you might hear and think you had to protect the DogMom? We hope that you can communicate better. If not, you can come here. Teka doesn't let us sleep through the night at all, after 5 years or so, I think the hoomans are used to it.

Uh oh, I wish I had an idea but sadly I don't
Gee, we have no clue! We can't imagine what could possibly be whigging you out, JH! Let us know when you figure it all out, okay?
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
Dear Just Harry,
My mom says she knows just what it is - wormholes! Her first dog, Caleb, used to see them sometimes, and would always have to alert the family lest one of them step into a rip in the space time continuum and end up in some parallel universe.

Maybe there is a something getting inside the house at night like a RAT. Us Terriers love to bard at those things.

We have a raccoon who seems to find his way into the vent in our bedroom occasionally, and when he moves around, there is much frenetic barking. That said, I REALLY like Beckett's explanation - because who wants to end up in a parallel universe?!? I think you should get an award or something for that!

Harry, Well, I just don't know. Sometimes, though, I do crazy stuff just because I think I see a booger-bear but I don't. Mom will come in and turn on the light and there's nothin'. I did that just last night in the closet at the clothes hamper. Man, I just KNEW I had a booger-bear, but...nothin'.
But, you know, I wasn't "normal" last night due to my date with Lacie. You asked me if I had the smoothie analyzed, but, sadly there was none left to analyze. Watcha thinkin'...."woofies" or somethin' like that? Would that pretty girl be capable of such naughtiness?
Irish Love,
McG
Hi, JH!
I have no idea what it could be!
I hope you are able to tell them what it is so they can take care of it and everything will be back to normal!
Kisses and hugs

Do MomDog and Dad know that we can smell something like 200x better than they can? So maybe you're smelling something that poor ol' humans can't. (Other than operating the can opener, they're pretty much useless when it comes to hearing and smelling and intuiting...)
Maybe you're just seeing some invisibles, like Mica. Or do you have a ghost???
Your curious pal,
Petey
Maybe you just want to take a shower-NOT. We don't have any idea. We do goffy things in the dead of night also.
Woo want snow of your own?

PeeEssWoo: We are sorry we don't have any suggestions
Well my vote would be for an itinerant critter but it seems odd that Jake isn't barking too... A few times in the last month or so Moose has taken to staring at the floor in the corner of my bedroom. FREAKED me out the first few times. Still no clue what he hears or smells but I do like Beckett's theory!
Hmmmm - yes, I do think that your ma best send you "Down Under" to cure this strange behaviour !
In exchange, I will send your mum "something else" to occupy her thoughts ;)

Boys boys boys......DO NOT THEY KNOW ANYTHING????? This is EXACTLY what I do at the wall and they thought I was cracker jack crazy UNTIL THEY HEARD A MOUSE IN THERE...there must be SOMETHING in there......Listen come over here.. we don't let them sleep throught the night either.. We ALWAYS hear something and bark at it/......Love A+A PL2 says this is why the bags under her eyes reach her neck....)
Ahh boyz we always know what's going on don't we? I'm with Aggie - got to be something on the roof or the wall you can hear. I bark at anything with a pulse in the middle of the night but if I'm deeeep asleep and there's a noise I don't always wake.Maybe the same with you Jake? If it happens again wake Jake Harry see if he can hear it too.
Wiry love Eric xx
Dear harry, we aren't sure what to tell you, but is it always at night that this happens? Sure sounds to us like you are hearing something in that wall. Hope you get to the bottom of this mystery.
Woos, Phantom and Thunder
Jake,
Glad you visited me today, me lad! I've created some confusion though (Lacie's smoothies, you know?)...Me mom is spayed and coming just to keep me company and be a pal (and challenge me Mom even more probably)! Check out me new post! I make it clearer!!!
Irish Love,
McG
All we can say is that we are on your side. Something must be there or you wouldn't be barking and looking and pointing to whatever it is that you see or hear. We just bet that someday - sometime - it will be revealed.
JH was just trying to wish me a happy wallytine day.
Essex.
