So Near and Yet So Far

Ah, here we are, just eight miles away from the Center of the Universe. Eight miles. So much has been going in our corner of the world -- that end of the Florida peninsula -- so close to Haiti -- where survivors of the earthquake are being treated in our local hospitals and children are attending school and Haitian-Americans who live here are waiting for flights to see how their struggling family members are doing.

And then that other event that has brought fans from all over to participate in what has become not just a football game, but what Bob Schiefer from Face the Nation today called something akin to Thanksgiving in its ability to bring people together.

And it's just eight miles from our house.

Excuse the pun, but, admittedly, we don't have a dog in the hunt since neither our Miami Dolphins nor the St. Louis Rams are in the fray. But we have been treated to non-stop coverage on radio and TV and it is just around the corner.

Having nothing better to do, however, Dogdad decided that this weekend was the weekend we would lose our winter coats. How weird is that ? Because, clearly, you can see that we saw our shadows and winter is not yet over!

Not even here.
