The girl can't help herself...

As she does every year at this wondrous moment, our mom goes around reciting the following classic poem in her imitation Brooklyn accent:

"Spring is sprung.
Da grass is riz.
I wonder where da boidies is.
All da boids is on da wing.
My, my ain't dat absoid!
I taut da wing was on da boid..."
Indulge her, if you will.

Jake
FYI, There are many variations (and alleged authors) to this poem -- and apparently there is even a Cockney version.

  3. Yeah. Well it's gotta be better than the "I wandered..." one that muzzer drags out at this time of year. At least this year, some of the ones she stuck in the ground have gratifyingly produced blooms! Usually, it doesn't even take that much to get her started.

We like the birdie, is she (?) a friend of the Heron?

  15. Well. We're not gonna recite the poem in cowboy style, 'cause we don't really want to be identified with cowpokes and wranglers. We will tell you, though, that the confusion about birds and wings and wings and birds is a daily one here. It seems our Jake thinks he's a bird dog (to A+A's disappointment, we're sure.) He's constantly trying to put the birds to wing. 'Specially now that they're beginning to set up house in "his tree." Maybe he's been listening to your mom's poem. (It's a good one.) It'd be nice if there was a simple explanation like that. We just tell him he's finding his youth, and going about it in a bit of an odd way. Thank goodness his coaches haven't given up on him!

Fergi (and Jake ... who is gathering energy for the next tree attack)

  18. I've never heard that version before, but it's one of the better ones, I think.

Grandpa used to have a little ditty he sang about a bird. It went, "Once there was a little bird, no bigger than a..." Well, you can figure it out. Mom won't let My Boy sing it in the house, but I'm sure she hums it sometimes. Naughty, but it had a catchy tune, I gave it a 5.

  19. I saw your pups on Ina's comment and had to take a peek. We had a Lakeland terrier until Jan 22 when our sweet Kelly girl crossed over the rainbow. A few years back we had a Welsh both were rescues- who eventually found their way home. I love my terriers. xo
